Patty Bordeaux Nelson

Patty Bordeaux Nelson is a Sicangu Lakota from the Rosebud reservation. Patty was raised by her grandparents, Francis and Carrie (Roubideaux) Bordeaux, near the Little White River in Mellette County, South Dakota. When she was four, her grandparents gave her a Lakota name, Winyan Luta Win. She currently resides in Madison, South Dakota with her husband. Patty is the mother of three sons and one daughter, and has five grandchildren.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from George Fox University, Newberg, Oregon, and a Master’s in Education from South Dakota State University. She has over 30 years of experience working in the field of special education and advocating for individuals with disabilities.
