Deanna Stands

Deanna Stands, Ihanktonwan na Isanyati Dakota, is a primary educator and high school level Dakota Language teacher at Wagner Community School.  Coming from a family of ten children, a large tiospaye, and her own four children and four grandsons, her writings reflect her wish to preserve family memories using a variety of genres.  To produce Dakota Language reading materials for the young learners is another beginning project for her.  She currently serves on the South Dakota Education Association Board of Directors and also on the South Dakota Humanities Council American Indian Culture Task Force.
